CHiP*Talks is a community talk series and public conversation about the thoughts and emotions we share; to put down the senseless, age-old stigmas that label and isolate us; to celebrate face-to-face connection, self-compassion, empathy and acceptance of others.
Our Talks are a quarterly event where community members share their beliefs and stories of adversity, triumph, epiphany and reconciliation. We explore the big questions of our human experience: Why are we here? What is our purpose?
By exploring, accepting, and loving ourselves, we open the door to accepting and understanding others.
*Connection Health intelligence Purpose
I started this live community talk series to talk openly about one of the most critical social problems of our time, our social and emotional health.
The ubiquity of isolation, of division, depression and anxiety today affects all of us by one degree--or less. Most alarming is our children are being affected in greater numbers each successive generation. The continued stigmatization of these age-old conditions of the spirit can no longer be given currency. It is long past time we talk openly about this now, in public, in our schools, our homes, and in our places of work. Because like all scourges of maladaptive behavior, silence is complicity. And, the traditional methods of treatment practiced behind closed doors must evolve and change. So, let's get it out there.
It is so important today that we continue to engage one another, to model and to teach our children regular, face-to-face conversation, with all the challenges and discomfort it entails, regardless whether we are friends or strangers -- and particularly if we are family. To acknowledge to our children that feelings are a normal part of life and must be experienced, accepted and regularly discussed; not to be ignored or pushed down. My goal is to provide our town with inspiration and support, to advocate involvement with and service to our neighbors, and to provoke new thought and perspective.
Each speaker Talks, without the aid of multimedia, about any subject within the realms of Connection, Health (emotional or otherwise) intelligence (of any kind) or Purpose/Passion (CHiP!). The caveat is, speakers will talk about subjects they may not be best known for, e.g. their business. They'll share their stories with the takeaway being a message of, for instance, overcoming adversity or promoting change. It can be as simple as what gives them meaning or hope.
Our non-profit's goal is to be a self supporting, quarterly series via ticket sales and donations at the door (and this website!). If we just about fill the theatre, we live to Talk another day! So come have a listen and join the conversation. I'd really like to meet you. Meantime, if we see one another in town I hope you'll stop to say hi.
